The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) is an intergovernmental treaty organization which
- develops model regulations, standards and related documents for use by legal metrology authorities and industry,
- provides mutual recognition systems which reduce trade barriers and costs in a global market,
- represents the interests of the legal metrology community within international organizations and forums concerned with metrology, standardization, testing, certification and accreditation,
- promotes and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and competencies within the legal metrology community worldwide,
- cooperates with other metrology bodies to raise awareness of the contribution that a sound legal metrology infrastructure can make to a modern economy.
The Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum (APLMF) is a grouping of legal
metrology authorities in theAsia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies
and other economies on the Pacific Rim, whose objective is the development of
legal metrology and the promotion of free and open trade in the
region through the harmonization and removal of technical or
administrative barriers to trade in the field of legal metrology.
The ASEAN
Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality, ACCSQ, was established in 1992
with the aim to facilitate the removal of Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT)
among ASEAN Member Countries to expand intra- and extra-ASEAN trade.In 2002,
the ACCSQ restructured its Working Groups to becoming four Working Groups, one
of which is the Working Group on Standards and Technical Regulation.

3 – Working Group on Legal Metrology
Scope of Activities:
- To align legal metrology in ASEAN to support the objectives of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and to ensure that the modernization of legislation in legal metrology by ASEAN Member Countries will not result in the introduction of new technical barriers to trade.
- To establish ASEAN cooperation in the area of legal metrology and to improve the national legal metrology systems, through cooperation in technology, human resources and management expertise.
- To hold discussions and promote ASEAN interest in legal metrology with other national, regional and international organizations.
Direktorat Metrologi mempunyai tugas melaksanakan perumusan dan pelaksanaan kebijakan, penyusunan pedoman, norma, standar, prosedur, dan kriteria serta pemberian bimbingan teknis dan evaluasi pelaksanaan kebijakan di bidang metrologi legal.
Dalam melaksanakan tugas sebagaimana
dimaksud, Direktorat Metrologi menyelenggarakan fungsi:
- penyiapan perumusan kebijakan peningkatan di bidang sarana, kerjasama, kelembagaan, penilaian kelembagaan, alat ukur, timbang, takar, standar ukuran, sumber daya manusia kemetrologian, dan pengawasan sektor metrologi legal;
- penyiapan pelaksanaan kebijakan di bidang sarana, kerja sama, kelembagaan, penilaian kelembagaan, alat ukur, timbang, takar, standar ukuran, sumber daya manusia kemetrologian, dan pengawasan sector metrologi legal;
- penyiapan penyusunan pedoman, standar, norma, prosedur, dan criteria di bidang sarana, kerja sama, kelembagaan, penilaian kelembagaan, alat ukur, timbang, takar, standar ukuran, sumber daya manusia kemetrologian, dan pengawasan sektor metrologi legal;
- penyiapan pemberian bimbingan teknis dan evaluasi pelaksanaan kebijakan di bidang sarana, kerja sama, kelembagaan, penilaian kelembagaan, alat ukur, timbang, takar, standar ukuran, sumber daya manusia kemetrologian, dan pengawasan sektor metrologi legal; dan
- pelaksanaan urusan tata usaha dan rumah tangga Direktorat.
